Uzbekistan has achieved wired internet speeds of up to 10 gigabits per second, marking a major milestone in its digital transformation.

High-Speed Internet Launch

UZTELECOM, Uzbekistan's national telecom operator, has successfully launched internet services capable of 10 Gbps speeds, making the country one of the first to achieve such high wired internet performance . This advancement is the result of large-scale fiber-optic network development, which has expanded connectivity across urban and rural areas.

Fiber-Optic Network Expansion

The country has invested heavily in telecommunications infrastructure, laying an additional 50,000 kilometers of fiber-optic lines, bringing the total to 170,000 kilometers . Approximately 80 percent of settlements now have access to high-speed communications, and 65 percent of households are connected to high-speed internet. The expansion also includes coverage of major highways and the installation of 8,300 new mobile stations, increasing mobile coverage to 99 percent .

Telecom Market Liberalization

Uzbekistan has implemented a phased liberalization of the telecommunications market, allowing operators to connect directly to international internet networks for commercial purposes . This initiative is designed to stimulate investment, improve service quality, and ensure compliance with cybersecurity standards. Operators participating in the pilot program must establish Internet Connection Centers (CICs) and meet infrastructure requirements, including 50 percent population coverage with backbone fiber-optic networks .

Data Centers and Digital Services

To support high-speed internet and data processing, Uzbekistan has built new data centers and expanded existing ones, including a facility with 5 petabytes of storage . Additional centers are planned in Bukhara, Ferghana, and Tashkent regions, ensuring robust digital infrastructure for both public and commercial use.
