This approach allows retrofitting without altering the rooftop wiring and enables integration of batteries or other energy sources while maintaining system safety during outages . 2. Module-Integrated Power Electronics (MIPE): Modern module-integrated inverters or DC/DC converters can be retrofitted at the module level. These devices allow maximum power point (MPP) tracking per module, improving performance in partially shaded or differently oriented modules. Fourth-generation module inverters are designed to be lightweight and low-profile, potentially laminated into the PV module itself, which reduces system costs and increases efficiency from around 90–95% to over 96% . 3.
