Classification by Operating Principle

  1. Electromechanical Relays: Operate using moving parts and electromagnetic forces. They are traditional relays that detect abnormal conditions like overcurrent or overvoltage and physically actuate contacts to trip circuit breakers .
  2. Static Relays: Use electronic components without moving parts, offering faster response and higher accuracy compared to electromechanical relays .

Classification by Function
