When installing a distribution box, it is recommended to reserve extra wire length and space to ensure safe and flexible connections.

Reserved Hole and Depth

For concealed installations, the reserved hole should be about 20mm larger than the distribution box in both length and width to allow for proper fitting and adjustments . The reserved depth should account for the thickness of the distribution box plus the plastering or finishing layer on the wall. This ensures the box sits flush with the wall surface and allows for secure mounting.

Wire Length Considerations

When connecting wires to the distribution box, it is important to leave sufficient extra length to facilitate:

• Easy connection to terminals or busbars without tension
• Future maintenance or replacement of components
• Safe bending and routing inside the box Typically, leaving 20–30cm of extra wire inside the box is considered good practice, though this may vary depending on the box size and the number of circuits . Wires should be neatly bound with plastic ties and organized to prevent short circuits and allow airflow .

Installation Tips

• Ensure the box is installed firmly, level, and vertical, with vertical deviation not exceeding 3mm .
• Avoid gaps around the box; edges should be close to the wall, and contact surfaces coated with anti-corrosion paint if necessary.
• Clearly mark AC, DC, or different voltage levels, and number neutral (N) and protective earth (PE) busbars for clarity .
• Maintain proper insulation and grounding for safety . By reserving adequate wire length and space, you ensure safe, flexible, and maintainable connections in the distribution box, reducing the risk of electrical faults and facilitating future upgrades.
